    New Hangar Construction at CEA

"This is another development for the area and it means jobs", Airport Manager, Dennis Rouleau said of the new hangar that Atlantic Aviation, one of the two FBOs at CEA, is adding to its facilities.  "This is a welcome addition to the Chicago Executive Airport family".

The hangar, Atlantic's third at CEA, is under construction near the northeast corner of the airfield.  It will include 26,000 square feet of hangar and 7,800 square feet of office space.  "It's going to be used entirely by a corporate operator to house their flight department" said Mike Kurgan, General Manager for Atlantic Aviation.

Rouleau said the new hangar, which he estimated to cost around $4 million, is not only a positive step for Atlantic Aviation and their client, but also for the airport.  He said the hangar represents a long-term lease, which also benefits the airport.   "That's important because we don't receive any funding from the City of Prospect Height or the Village of Wheeling for operating the airport", Rouleau said, "so we rely on long-term leases."  Construction should be complete in November of 2012.

Taxiway Echo Extension will Further Improve Traffic Flow and Safety at CEA

CEA is ready for another safety enhancement to the airfield: a 780 foot extension of Taxiway Echo running along the north side of Runway 12-30. "The project is intendeded to correct a complicated section of the airport where a pilot may get confused and inadvertently enter into the runway environment without proper permission from FAA Air Traffic Control" states Jamie Abbott, Assistant Airport Manager.  "We are taking action is in response to a Runway Safety Action Team (RSAT) recommendation", said Abbott.

"Plans call for extending the taxiway in 10' thick concrete pavement and performing an asphalt overlay of a 22 year old section of existing Taxiway Echo and 800 feet of Taxiway Bravo.  The cost of the project is $2.1 million.  Of that, 95% is from Federal dollars from the airway trust fund and 2.5 % each is from state and airport generated matching funding.  As in the past, zero dollars from the Village of Wheeling and the City of Prospect Heights are used to operate the airport.  The project should be completed by the end of summer.
