An aviation company based at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling wants to build a new hangar at the facility.
Hawthorne Global Aviation Services has proposed a new, 30,000-square-foot hangar with 6,900 square feet of office space at the airport, which is jointly owned by Wheeling and Prospect Heights but is independently operated.
Hawthorne, which offers private and charter plane services, has been a tenant at the airport since 2014.
he company hopes to start construction this spring.
“This proposed space will help us better accommodate our customers and maintain the highest level of customer service our users have come to expect from us,” Hawthorne Global General Manager David Annin said in a news release.
Airport Chairman D. Court Harris called Hawthorne “a great partner” and celebrated the expansion proposal as “a significant investment in our airport and in the community.”
The Wheeling village board reviewed the plans Monday night. Local zoning codes require any new construction be reviewed by the village board and plan commission.
