Approximately 15 girls, ages 10-14 years old, and three PHPD Officers were treated to a brief presentation about the Airport’s history and different careers available in the aviation industry.
The tour started in the Airport Operations Maintenance facility where the girls were able to see up close a snow broom, a huge vehicle that clears snow from the runways. Next on the tour was Hawthorne Global Aviation where the girls saw the FBO lobby and hangar.
Dave Klopfleisch and Madeleine Monaco from Chicago Executive Flight School brought an aerobatic training aircraft over for the girls to sit inside, they helped the girls try on a parachute and taught the girls the basics of the aircraft controls.
Everyone was also able to see the inside of a business jet and sit in the cockpit. Jennifer, Dave and Madeleine were kept busy answering many questions about working at the airport and flying.
A great time was had by all and they left knowing so much more about this beautiful airport that thrives in their community!
